Bench of the week (6)

This does not look much like a bench, but as a matter of fact it is. Or can be used as one.

Here is the whole bench - in use.

The bench is situated as close to the centre of Bergen as it is possible to come - on Vaagsalmenningen. The statue to the left depicts the writer Ludvig Holberg (1684 - 1754) - a Norwegian-Danish writer born in Bergen.

Flowers and point-and-shoot cameras

I usually use a SLR for my photography. However, it is a bit bulky to carry around and in many cases I do not have it with me. To supplement it I therefore always have a small point-and-shoot camera (Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX1) in my belt. It can cope with many things, but close-ups are problem. The auto-focus is inaccurate and due to the small chip it gives a large depth of field. The manual possibility you have are few.

Below are two case swhere i finally got a reasonably good focus, but the depth-of field is larger that I would have achieved with a SLR. In these cases I could have done something in Photoshop, but i chose not to to prove my point.

Just playing around with some bridges

I have had, and still has, problems with the servers that I use for my pictures and other things. That is an issue that I will have to deal with a bit more next week. I am also waiting for a new tele-zoom which seems to have been detoured via Australia (at least it feels like that). In the meantime I have been playing around with an old, cheap one. Since I love to take pictures of bridges I have used them as targets once more. Don't take this to seriously.

Welcome to my new blog

This is my new photo-blog. The name, Visual Norway - Extended, signifies what it is meant to be - an extension of my main English blog: Visual Norway. That blog was also meant to be a pure photo-blog, but as time went by it became more of a "standard" blog than I intended. So therefore I have started this blog as an add-on.

There will be no advertising, no memes, and awards are Thank you, but No Thank you. The photos may be whatever takes my fancy and whatever I want to learn or experiment with: Macros, Black & White, HDR, Panoramas, Series concerning a single subject, Supplements to pictures posted in Visual Norway - we'll see, because I don't quite know yet. The text will be kept at a minimum, but comments will of course always be welcome.
